Ghost town

I am walking in the ghost town,
Which nobody wants to visit.
The houses are all rotten,
And their window panes broken.
The sky is always foggy
And the air never warm
And ghosts whistle past your ears
Whispering horrible secrets.
That’s the end of this poem,
And also the end of me.

Patriotism before realisation

Bring your flag and wave it about
Show your patriotism – shout it out!
It doesn’t matter if you’re only three
Just wave your flag – then we can go home for tea!

Patriotism before realisation – by the time they can walk
Brainwashing children before they can talk
Maybe that’s the reason for the state of this world?
It could be the reason we’ll never grow old

Children of the world can never unite
When waving different flags – this will cause a fight
So, I say to the so called “lovers of peace”
Drop all your flags and wars will then cease

Magic in the Dark

I sit inside my dark living room,
The only light comes from the flickering TV screen.
I hear a horse coming down the street,
Bangles and small bells ring.

I know they are small bells, yet they sound like a xylophone,
I peer out of the gap between the closed curtains,
And I see a woman with a red and gold dress who chimes the tea bells in her hands.
She has a pouch at her hip, filled with magics of a far-off land.

I venture outside into the cold, rainy night,
She gets off her midnight black horse,
She floats towards me.
Her hand hovers over her pouch.

The church bells ring midnight as she takes a star from the pouch,
She throws it to the street.
I’m swirling in darkness, filled with blue and white smoke,
I wish I stayed at home curled up in front of the flickering TV screen,

Yet nothing seems to stir,
Yet nothing seems…
Yet nothing…
Yet-

A new beginning

Suddenly
the train stopped.
I walked slowly out
feeling very shy and nervous.
People looked at me strangely.
Well, I am strange,
but their expressions were scary and frightening.
There were old broken buildings everywhere,
odd people.
I walked straight, down dismal streets.
Eventually, I stopped in front of a small house.
I took a piece of paper out of my pocket,
it said:

7 Lean Street
Newcastle
Tyne and Wear
NE8 0PU

I quickly tucked it away again and looked back up.
There it was. It was small but looked nice.
A comfortable house.
And I was supposed to live here
for the rest of my life.
This was supposed to change me.

Please Listen

Listen to your shoes,
they have something to declare or say!
They have an opinion, a mood,
and it varies from day to day!
Ask their opinion, please,
like when going to a company meet.
But, please, one main rule:
DON’T have smelly feet!

THE TOMB

In the world there’s a country,
in that country there’s a city,
in that city there’s a tomb,
in the tomb there’s a door,
inside the door there’s a passage,
down the passage there’s a coffin,
in the coffin there’s some bandages,
in the bandages there’s a body.

Long ago the body was alive.
When the body was alive, it was a King,
when it was a King it was worshipped,
when the King was worshipped he was happy,
when the king is happy, happy people are jealous.

When the people are jealous the King gets chased,
when the King gets chased he gets cornered,
when he gets cornered he gets killed,
when he gets killed he gets embalmed,
when he gets embalmed he gets mummified,
when he gets mummified he gets buried in a tomb,
when he gets buried in a tomb he’s back as a dead body ……

THE ANCIENT GEEKS

Of course Homer - he could tell a good story,
All his heroes have a certain mystique,
There’s no question he deserves fame and glory,
BUT HE WASN’T AN ANCIENT GEEK!

Dr. Freud was intrigued by Oedipus Rex,
Of whom Sophocles of Athens did speak:
Wed his mum, killed his dad, and named a complex,
BUT HE WASN’T AN ANCIENT GEEK!

Out of chaos, Pythagoras made order,
Could calculate the side that was oblique
Of a right-angled triangle anywhere,
BUT HE WASN’T AN ANCIENT GEEK!

On the nature of wisdom mused Socrates,
As he sat out in the sun with his clique,
Profound were his questions, and sure to tease,
BUT HE WASN’T AN ANCIENT GEEK!

It’s not that we want to put them down at all,
We have the utmost respect for those Greeks,
But the fact still remains that we are special,
BECAUSE WE ARE THE ANCIENT GEEKS!
